Import from Database by IDs

If you have a formerly prepared list of IDs you would like to import structures and data for, use the Import by IDs function under the Database group.

The search can be run on database tables, views, and synonyms. In the case of databases—which can handle more users at the same time—entities belonging to different users can be handled as well.

The dialog is similar to the basic database import, but in this case, only data, which belongs to the subset of IDs is imported. The connection parameters are stored in Connections.xml, located under:

    C:\Users\<current user>\AppData\Roaming\Chemaxon\JChem for Excel\Connections.xml

The same databases and connections can be used as in Importing from Databases in JChem for Excel.

Import by IDs button is available in the Advanced ribbon. The dialog contains the following tabs:

    • Database

    • Columns

    • Progress

    Database Tab

To specify the database, tables, views, and synonyms from which you would like to import the structures associated with the IDs in your spreadsheet, click the Select Entity button.

In the Select Entity dialog, all connections stored in the Connections.xml are listed and can be selected. The entities are listed in alphabetical order.

Entities marked as a favorite in the Import from Database dialog are marked here as well. To view only entities that are marked as favorite, check the Show only favorites checkbox. The checkbox is unchecked by default.

After selecting the current connection and database entity you would like to use, the selection will be displayed on the Import By IDs dialog.

The Database tab contains the following options:

    • ID Column: All columns of the database are listed in a drop-down list and can be selected.

    • Structure Column: You can specify the structure column in the database.

    • Structure Format: You can specify the format of structures.

    • ID Column on Worksheet: All columns in the worksheet are listed in the drop-down list. You can specify the column for which the structures and data will be searched and imported.

    • Restore the last search/map parameters back to the option: If you would like to use the current connection frequently, you can save the connection parameters by selecting this check-box.

The parameters are saved under Options > Actions > Convert To Structure By ID From Database > Database Settings. It is also possible to manually specify the parameters under this option.

This way the connection will be automatically selected by default.

    • Create Header: Check the box to create column headers for the imported structures.

    • Selection Only: Use this checkbox to import only a subset of the available data.

    Columns Tab

The Columns tab is the same as in Import from Database. You can specify the columns to be imported. Select at least two columns to start the import process.

    Progress Tab

A progress bar displays the status of the import process.

After the import process is finished, the dialog closes automatically.

The structures and selected data are imported for the list of IDs as a JCIDSYSStructure function. In this way, you can alternate between structure display and ID display. For more information regarding this, see Show and Hide Structures and Structure IDs.
