JChem for Office Lite User's Guide¶
JChem for Office Lite is Chemaxon’s newest cheminformatics solution for Microsoft Office. It is an easy‑to‑use add‑in that works across Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. JChem for Office Lite is ideal for users who need a simple way to copy and paste individual chemical structures from their preferred chemical editor into Office applications. Once pasted, structures can be edited just as seamlessly as in the full JChem for Office suite.
The main purpose of JChem for Office Lite is to ensure smooth collaboration between users who rely on different chemical editors. Regardless of which editor a user prefers, JChem for Office Lite automatically detects and applies the most suitable renderer for the format. (Currently supported renderers: Marvin, MarvinSketch, and ChemDraw)
Key features of JChem for Office Lite:
- Copy and paste structures to and from all chemical editors that are currently supported in JChem for Office.
- Edit structures easily by using the Edit button or simply double‑clicking the structure.
- Automatic renderer detection is supported for Marvin, MarvinSketch, and ChemDraw formats. Excel is not included in automatic renderer detection.
- Customizable editor selection through JChem ribbon > Options > Structure Editor.

While JChem for Office Lite provides a smooth collaboration experience and supports essential structure‑handling tasks, it includes only a minimal set of ribbon tools (Edit, Options, Help, About, and Licenses). As a result, its functionality is intentionally limited.
If you require more advanced capabilities (e.g. database import, copying and pasting structures from multiple cells) we strongly recommend using JChem for Office.
