History of Changes - JChem for Office

March 10th, 2026: JChem for Office 25.4.1 Silicon.1

MarvinSketch/JChem 25.4.1 and Marvin 25.4.1 is used.

New Feature

  • JChem for Office installation process stops if there is an open Office application on the user’s machine.
  • Rendering is now automatically set to Auto‑detect, only the Editor option can be changed.
  • JChem for Office Lite uses the same installer as the full product. Its functionality is extended to Excel. It now uses the JChem ribbon with only the Edit, Options, Licenses, and About buttons enabled. The previous context‑menu editor and renderer controls are removed.
  • Molecule images are rendered as SVG with Marvin in Word, PowerPoint and Outlook if the molecule source was represented in CXON.

Bug Fixes

  • The first paste from Marvin always failed.
  • Added graphical objects and texts were lost while copying as MOL or RXN file to Excel.
  • The plus sign for RXN reactions was not displayed when the file was opened in JChem for Office with MarvinSketch editor.
  • Resizing the MarvinSketch window and accessing its options which opened a new window (e.g. "Name to structure") caused the entire Office application to freeze.
  • Using the Structure Checker button in MarvinSketch editor resulted in a crash
  • Some of the JC funtions in JChem for Excel did not provide output.
  • In Excel, JC function-generated structures (e.g., the result of JCReactProductStructure) could not be exported using the "Structures only" option.
  • JChem for Excel functions were not fully compatible with SMILES strings and chemical compound names.
  • JCChemicalTerms functions resulting in atom indexes (e.g. “map” or “smallestRing”) showed an error instead of returning atom indexes
  • Wrapped peptide line drawn in Marvin was rendered badly in Office applications.
  • Bond Hash Spacing value could not be overwritten with a custom number in Options/Structure Display in JChem for Excel.
  • Website link to Academic Program on license exception window was not opened in a separate browser.
  • Save to share process did not save the original workbook
  • Copying a JChem for Office object in Word occasionally did not include the molecule image thus the subsequent paste failed in Word and PowerPoint.

Improvement

  • The jre and lib folders along with LicenceManager.exe were moved to a versioned Chemaxon.NET folder (from C:\Program Files (x86)\ChemAxon to C:\Program Files (x86)\ChemAxon\Chemaxon.NET).
  • ROOT was added as a TrustStore option in the Java.JNI.dll.config file to eliminate previously experienced CAS conversion and license key activation issues.
  • VSTO files are now signed.
  • Error message was unified when performing calculations on molecules with pseudoatoms.

Deprecated feature

  • The Print Preview button has been removed from the JChem Ribbon and is now only accessible when using a custom xml file.
