Marvin Desktop Suite System Requirements, Installation and Upgrade¶
Supported Platforms¶
- Windows (Windows 10 64-bit or later)
- macOS (macOS 10.15 or later)
- Debian-based distributions
- RedHat-based distributions
Minimum System Requirements¶
- 1 GHz processor
- 1 GB RAM (1.5 GB of RAM for Windows)
- 300 MB available hard disk space
Recommended System Specification¶
- 2 GHz processor, 2 or more physical cores
- 2 GB of RAM
- 300 MB available hard disk space
Java¶
Java 17 is required since version 23.10.
Marvin Desktop Suite installers are bundled with Eclipse Adoptium Java 17.
In the case of AdoptOpenJDK, libfontconfig package must be included.
Installation of the Marvin Desktop Suite¶
Windows¶
Wizard¶
Marvin Desktop Suite can be installed with a Wizard by default. You can use standard and custom installation.
With standard installation:
- Marvin Desktop Suite will be installed to
C:\Program Files\Chemaxon\MarvinSuite - Chemaxon supported file extensions will be associated to MarvinSketch for single molecule formats and MarvinView for formats containing multiple molecules (such as SDF).
- Start menu program group: Chemaxon\Chemaxon Marvin Suite
Select custom installation on the installation mode screen to customize these values.
Silent install¶
It is also possible to install Marvin Desktop Suite from te command line in unattended mode. To do so, run the installer exe file with -q -console -varfile response.varfile arguments.
To get a response.varfile, install Marvin Desktop Suite using the Wizard to perform an example installation.
There will be a response.varfile in the installation directory, in the .install4j folder.
You can also get a response file by unzipping the installer exe file and copying the default_response.varfile from the root of the unzipped exe.
Linux¶
Follow the manual of your linux distribution on the installation process for a .deb file on Debian based and an .rpm file for RedHat based distributions, respectively.
macOS¶
By running the installer .dmg file, a window will pop up in which you can drag and drop Marvin Desktop Suite into the Applications folder. Performing this operation installs the software, no further steps are required.
Marvin for .NET¶
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Note that .NET Framework 4 does not include version 3.5.
Uninstalling the Marvin Desktop Suite¶
- Windows: Double click
uninstall.exein the home folder of MarvinSuite or uninstall the program through Windows' Settings > Apps & features.
- Linux: Use your distribution's package manager to uninstall the application.
- macOS: Double click on
Chemaxon MarvinSuite Uninstallerin the home directory of MarvinSuite.
