License Installation

You need a license to use any piece of Chemaxon software. This can be granted to you by either a file or a key. License file is a document you must make available for the Chemaxon software to valide your usage rights, license key is a unique identifier checked online to grant you rights for using the Chemaxon software. Both solutions can be used independently or together. You can provide the needed settings either with our LicenseManager tool (can be downloaded with Marvin or JChem package), or with manual setup.

You can find more detailed information about license key setup or license file setup for Desktop or for Server environemnts.

    Installation with LicenseManager

With some of our desktop softwares a LicenseManager application is distributed. Open it from the installation directory or from the Help menu in the desktop tools and follow the instructions.

    Manual installation

The license file can be placed to its default location, or you have to set where to look for the license.

The default location is <chemaxon_home>/license.cxl or <chemaxon_home>/licenses/ folder. <chemaxon_home> can be set by the CHEMAXON_HOME environment variable. Its default value is <user_home>/chemaxon on Windows and <user_home>/.chemaxon on Unix-like systems. <user_home> means the home folder of the user that executes the Chemaxon application.

License file can also be set by CHEMAXON_LICENSE_URL environment variable, or by the chemaxon.license.url JVM parameter.

License key can be set by the CHEMAXON_LICENSE_SERVER_KEY environment variable, or by the chemaxon.license.server.key JVM parameter, or by editing the file: <chemaxon_home>/license-manager.properties. (The name <chemaxon_home> refers to the folder described above.)
